If my working style had a soundtrack...
Curating music has been a large part of my life ever since I began creating and sharing niche playlists on Spotify every month for myself and others. Just as I create a specific feeling through a collection of songs, strategy gives me the opportunity to discover and express human truths in a creative way that allows brands to become legends, not just one-hit-wonders.
My work day begins with upbeat jazz from artists like the Chet Baker Quartet. It’s a warm, focused sound that leaves room for creativity without distracting words. These records reflect early morning productivity as I prioritize tasks and map the best way to approach the day.
When participating in team check-ins or creative briefings, the energy shifts to Classic Rock — Creedence Clearwater Revival, Tom Petty, or the Eagles. This music tells stories steeped in human truth, creating an atmosphere of calm confidence and open minds. Much like my approach in these meetings, this genre builds toward something greater, anchoring creative ideas in narratives that resonate with established audiences. As strategists, it is our responsibility to inspire creatives and consistently show up with energy and excitement for our projects. In similarity with Classic Rock, I aim to bring strategies that are authentic, ownable and consistent with human experience.
When approaching possible challenges, I turn to artists like George Ezra and Leon Bridges. Their steady rhythm, timeless genre crossovers and uplifting melodies parallel well with my approach to problem-solving. Both artists have music that is intentional, grounded, able to take on different perspectives and full of patterns that help me see the bigger picture. This blend of singers keeps me optimistic, logical, highly adaptable, and focused on finding the best path forward.
Brainstorms and client presentations are soundtracked by funk disco. While various energetic elements work in harmony, each sound is distinct, working together to create seamless and powerful work. Similarly, I am motivated to valuably contribute and own researched opinions as well as client presentations. As a young strategist, I am grateful that I have been a part of many client facing presentations through my internships, as it is something I enjoy and continue to improve on.
With independent work and tasks, my soundtrack becomes more fluid, adapting to each project’s needs. Whether I’m immersing myself in a client’s perspective or an audience mindset, the music shifts to match the research at hand. However, when conducting audits, writing briefs, or handling other deliverables, I shift towards artists like Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats to keep my words succinct, yet still deliver compelling messages.
Finally, when there are strict deadlines in place, the energy peaks with house music—steady, high-tempo beats driving me toward the finish line. It’s fast-paced yet intentional, reflecting my ability to handle pressure with precision and purpose. I hold myself to high standards, delivering work that exceeds expectations with a commitment to reliability and attention to detail.
